Lectionary Year A Advent 4; based on Mt. 1:18-25

Miraculous God

Who brings light into the shadows of darkness in which we live,

Who has changed the world we live in with the announcement of the birth of your Son, Jesus,

We gather in this wondrous day in anticipation and wonder at the miracle that you have bestowed upon us. In a season in which we adjust to the pressures of family gatherings and lists of purchases and obligations to consider, we are called to turn our eyes towards the joy of his coming.  A Savior announced to us so many centuries ago, Immanuel, draws us closer to you with his coming.

In this quiet time of reflection, we open our minds, our hearts and our souls to you.  As we allow your healing silence to replace the noise of our days, we become more aware of the beauty and wonder of the world you have bestowed upon us.

Help us in this time of celebrations and gatherings, to share with each other the love that you have demonstrated towards us.  As you have shown us your love for us, grant us wisdom that we may provide care for those in need.   Give us compassion for those who are ill, or separated from their loved ones this holiday season.  Help us to address the needs of those who cry out in Your Name: those who need shelter, those who are without food, or who struggle with addiction or mental illness.   For these your children need our support in their time of need, and we are called in the message of the gift of your Son’s life among us to help them.

In this time of year where we celebrate the gift you have given us in Your Son’s arrival in our lives, we give You thanks for all that you have bestowed upon us.  May we continue to give thanks to you, to glorify your Name in all we do.

For we ask this in the Name of your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Amen.
