Meditative prayer: New Year's Eve: Lectionary A; Watch Nigh prayer based on Lk. 2:1-14

Lord of all, at the end of the year we gather to lift our hymn of praise to You.

We are in constant awareness of the love that You have bestowed upon us.  We see your beauty around us, the wonder of a sunrise, the serenity of a day of calm.  We feel your presence in the conversations with friends, the inspiration provided by your Scriptures, the chance to commune with You through the beauty of the earth that You provide.

As we look back on this year that you have given us, this past decade of so many experiences, we remember the times of accomplishments, those events and things that seemed to go well.  These include the goals we set for ourselves and achieved, the promises that we made and then were able to keep, the relationships that we developed in our fast past world.

We also recall the things that we set aside, the projects that couldn’t be finished, the friendships that we let go of and never resumed, promises that we made to ourselves or to others that we never met.

For all of these, our connections and our disconnections, we reflect on our selves, our families, our community, and turn our hearts to you.  You who have upheld us in these past years, we turn to You in hopes that we will keep sustaining us in our future.

Sustain us, fill with us hope inspired by our faith in You.  For it is in the Name of Your Son, Jesus, who came to save us, that we come before You today.

In His Sacred Name we pray.  Amen.
