Lectionary Year A: Advent 2: Prayer based on Mt. 3: 1-12

Forgiving God,

We turn to you in this quiet moment, reflecting on what has been, and what might become in our lives.  For we your children continue to seek to live our way, as you would have us live, following in the path established by your commandments.  For we are surrounded by a world filled with negativity and doubt, that can pull us away from your vision for us.  In our time of quiet prayer, we strive to turn our faces once again in your direction, drawn by the hope that life in You provides.

And as we reflect on our own hopes and fears, the things that inspire us at times, and overwhelm us at others, we bring before you the needs of those around us.  Help us to see in our midst the poverty of those within our own community.  For those who are in hospital beds or nursing homes, help us to bring the comfort of your healing presence.  Sustain us, strengthen us as we seek to bring the message of your peace to those around us.

Grant that we in Your Name are the ones who provide the touch of healing, the promise of love and support for those in need.  With our faith in You, help us to draw those back to Your presence those who have gone astray and turned away from the path You have provided.

And be with us this season of renewal as we re-center ourselves back into our preparation for your Son’s coming into our lives.  For it is in His Name that we lift up this prayer to You.
